Phelan Segur included a little Petit Verdot for the first time here and certainly seems to carry more complexity and depth than previous vintages. St Julien may be one of the smallest Bordeaux appellations and despite not having any first growths the top chateaus of the region consistently produce fantastic quality for the price. The 2012 has a dense blackcurrant hit and opens wonderfully in the glass evolving through the evening.

Consistently one of the top pound for pound wines from Pauillac, the 2003 Pontet Canet gives the opportunity to taste this iconic wine during the peak phase of its ageing. With the signature cassis notes still present, the tannins have now softened making this wine a true joy to drink.
